Increased bacterial translocation from the gut due to altered intestinal immunity and bacterial overgrowth in cirrhotics produces Gram-negative bacteraemia, giving an opportunity for distant invasion by these microorganisms [ 3 ]. This is substantiated by the culture reports in these patients [
